“You can’t give up! Not now, why can’t you understand your own worth?” My old friend, Shannon, looked me dead in the eye with those glowing green eyes of his. He was hardly ever serious, but now he was, for the first time in a long time.
“Put it down, Lance. There are people who care about you.” His voice shook with fear and he had seen through my plan. I would go, quickly and quietly. I would vanish as if I was the wind.
I shook my head and ran my free hand through my shaggy black hair. While stroking my hair, I accidentally touched my scar. The left side of my face felt a quick jolt of pain. Even after almost a decade it still hurt when I touched it.
Shannon sighed also tugging out some of his golden locks in the process.
“Why don’t you ever listen to me? You. Do. Not. Want. This.” His voice was now dead serious, he wanted his message to get through.
He knew me too well, he knew I would listen but I wouldn’t listen. I continued to see fear and pain in his eyes, he knew what I was going through and I knew the same for him.
And in truth, his life was harder than mine. He went from home to home and was kicked out every time. He didn’t know love from parents, all he has is his family, and no, not related family. Us. Me, Sierra, Xaviar, Olivia… everyone. We all love him, and he knows it.
“I can practically see the gears turning in your head, Lance. You’re thinking whether you should do it or not. And I know the answer. You can’t. You don’t want to leave us alone, Lance Tolkien!” I could have sworn I saw a tear roll down his cheek but he quickly rubbed it away, I knew he didn’t want to lose a part of his family.
He sat down next to me and put his hands down his lap, “Please, I can’t lose you, Lance. You mean too much… to all of us.”
I sighed. Everything Shannon was saying was true. I let out another deep sigh before I cursed under my breath as I threw the object down, cutting myself in the process.
“…I’m sorry, Shannon.”
The smile came back to Shannon’s face as he gave me a weird side hug thing, “There we go, you finally listened to be you little…” He laughed, “Whatever, let’s go home.”
I gave a weak smile to Shannon, even though I really didn’t feel like smiling. But the last thing I wanted to was hurt anyone. I would stay with them, even through all the suffering. We would see better days.
